Re-imagining the U.S. Custody Business

The custody business in the United States is at a critical turning point. Today, what are the priorities of mid-sized banks and brokers? And what do they expect from their custodians?

Custodian banks today must embrace technological innovation and automation to meet the threat of fintech market entrants, to achieve operational efficiencies, to remain competitive, and to empower high touch customer servicing.

BNP Paribas has commissioned the international research and consulting firm TABB Group with a survey on the priorities of midsized banks and brokers and on their expectations from custodian banks.

“Not surprisingly, regulation remains a priority for banks and brokers. The report also highlights the importance of cyber security, which comes at par with client driven user interfaces on the technology priority list. Technology offers new opportunities, but also threats, and we hear about these growing concerns from our clients.”

Bruno Campenon, Head of Financial Intermediaries & Corporates Client Line,
BNP Paribas Securities Services

The results of the poll provide valuable insights on the future of custody as a whole. Its learning points can be applied well beyond the U.S.
