Calculating the environmental impact of your investments

Investors have an important role to play in the transition towards a world that is more respectful of our planet's resources. This is why reliable indicators of the environmental impact of business activities are needed. With this in mind, BNP Paribas Securities Services and Sycomore AM have joined forces to offer investors a relevant and workable environmental impact measurement tool, the Net Environmental Contribution (NEC)

The NEC was created by Sycomore AM, in association with I Care & Consult and Quantis, to assess the environmental impact of the business activities of a company, a portfolio or an index by allocating a rating. This analysis is carried out across the life cycle of the product. It identifies whether the activities of a company are compatible with energy and ecological transition, and with the objectives of combating global warming. This environmental indicator is presented in the form of a scale ranging from -100% (activity that is harmful to the environment) to +100% (activity that has no impact on the environment, or is even beneficial).

Thanks to its partnership with BNP Paribas Securities Services, Sycomore AM plans to speed up the deployment of its NEC on a large scale. The indicator will be tested and applied to over 1000 companies.

To help you understand how this new indicator works, the brochure below includes a practical example of how the NEC indicator can be applied to the food industry.
