PRIIPs (Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products) Regulation

02/02/2017

Our regulatory memo explaining the PRIIPs regulation: what it is, its scope, key dates and how it will impact you.

The PRIIPs (Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products) Regulation aims to improve retail investor protection by:

  • Providing basic pre-contractual information via introduction of the KID (Key Information Document)

  • Improving the quality and comparability of information on the key features of investments products (in particular on risk, performance and costs)

The European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) will publish Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) to complete the Level 1 legislation that has already been published. The RTS will specify:

  • The uniform presentation of information in the KID to achieve comparability across different types of investment products

  • A harmonising methodology regarding calculation of the summary risk indicators, performance and costs
